Negotiating with Terrorists: The Taliban

How low can the Obama administration go?  Now it is being said that the United States are negotiating with the Taliban.  These are the same Taliban who want all Americans dead.  These are the same Taliban that oppress and abuse women.  These are the same Taliban that ruled Afghanistan 1996-2001 and spread fear and terror among their people. What the heck is the Obama administration thinking?  This is not the mujahedin of the 1980’s that the Reagan administration help arm and train to defeat the Soviet Union-these are Muslim extremists who believe in strict  Sharia law, that the only good American is a dead American,  and anybody who is not Muslim must convert or die, period.

What is mujahedin? “Is a term applied to any Muslim who joins in a military Jihad (holy war)…”, “…in modern times used by numerous Islamist terrorist and guerilla groups to describe themselves…” (http://www.mideastweb.org/Middle -East-Encyclopedia/Mujahedin.htm)     When the mujahedin were fighting the Soviet Union all Afghans were united for one purpose across all tribal, regional, and ethnicity lines, but as soon as the Soviet Union withdrew their troops then the mujahedin started to divide across all lines and the fight began for control of Afghanistan.

The Taliban is one of many groups that formed to help create a united mujahedin during the war against the Soviet Union.  But soon after the Soviet withdrawal of troops; civil war ensued which the Taliban claimed victory with the help of Pakistan and the capture of Kabul in September 1996 (http://www.infoplease.com/spot/taliban.html).   Under the direction of Mullah Muhammad Omar strict Sharia law was instituted that included the outlawing of kite flying, television, internet and more.  Public floggings and executions in soccer stadiums became routine and men had to wear beards or receive a beating.  All girls were forbidden to go to school or work outside of the home and this created a crisis in healthcare and education, plus women could not leave the home without the accompaniment of a male relative-if they did they risked getting beaten or shot.  Even with the control the Taliban had it still did not end the civil war nor did it help their people with getting clean running water, food, and employment in the cities.  It was left worse off then before the Taliban took control.

When did the United States start negotiating with terrorists? When did this change?  Negotiating with the Taliban (terrorists) is not going to work because there are many different tribes, ethnicity’s, and differing viewpoints of Islam all making up the Taliban and competing for power.  This is what has been tearing apart this country for many years and it will not go away simply because the United States is negotiating and the Taliban signs a piece of paper.  Why would the Obama administration give any power to the Taliban by negotiating with them when so many of our American military have spilled their blood to free the Afghan people from the oppression and abuse the Taliban exerted upon them  for five years?  It is bad enough that there is a supporter of the Taliban as president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai and look how far that has gotten Afghanistan-not very far.  The Taliban is still stirring up violence in Afghanistan as is evident in the growing protests of the burning of the Koran (but keep in mind these holy books were used by former detainees to communicate-how is that respectful of the Koran?) the holy book of Islam this past week-which claimed two American lives so far.

In the end, it does not matter what the Taliban and the United States agree upon, because the Taliban will not follow anything that is on a piece of paper.  Americans are considered infidels by the Taliban and we are considered weak and pathetic.  What the Taliban really wants is control of the opium production to make their war chests fatter and power over the people of Afghanistan like they had between 1996 and 2001.   The Taliban will repeat history once again when the United States military is gone and that will mean women and girls will once again be oppressed and abused and strict Sharia law will once again spread terror and torture to all the country once again.  This is not what our American soldiers spilled their blood for; they gave their blood and their lives so all the Afghan people can live free and have choices.  So why is the Obama administration negotiating with terrorists?
