Obama’s national security policy friendly to Al-Qaeda?

With so many arrests and terrorist actions both inside the United States and outside it is in the best interest of all Americans to be on their guard. Recently, the number two Al-Qaeda Sufyan al-Azdi al-Shahri called for attacks against United States interests “everywhere,” .

Comments like these are very common agreed, but in a recent Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on threats to the United States Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) asked the panel during the hearing, the following:

“What is the likelihood of another terrorist-attempted attack on the U.S. homeland in the next three to six months, high or low, Director Blair?” Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair answered,” An attempted attack, the priority is certain, I would say.”   Senator Feinstein turned to director of the CIA Leon Panetta, “Mr. Panetta?”
He answered, “I would agree with that?”

These words are certainly enough to chill the bones of any American, hopefully they will be taken seriously.

In the last 6 months a chatter, of sorts, has been coming out of the White House, almost expecting not just one terrorist attack, but possibly numerous within the continental United States.

The recent arrest of  Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab,  the Nigerian dubbed the “Christmas Day Terrorist” has only strengthened this concern.

Now, with such information, another issue has arisen: has the White Houses primary focus on its national social policies neglected national security?

After the arrest of Abdulmutallab, Republican leadership came out blasting against the Presidents policy of reading a terrorist suspect his legal rights instead of interviewing for additional information.

The concern was that when Abdulmuallab was read all of his American rights (He is Nigerian)  which he was kindly afforded, that he had no incentive to speak and therefore our initiative to gain valuable information lost.

Because the Republicans made this claim President Obama and his top counterterrorism andvisor were forced to respond not with suggestions as to how to deal with the situation in the future, but with rather blame.  This sadly was the wrong response.

This weakness in national security policy and the desire to treat terrorist as citizens likely stems from a deeply held belief with the majority of President Obama’s Cabinet and himself that Muslim terrorists really are just freedom fighters who have been misunderstood.  This is supported certainly by the decision the Obama White House took to change the name Global War On Terror early in the Administrations life.

How does this translate for the average American, be on your guard; be smart in large gatherings, and finally develop of community of armed citizens.
