Recently I was at a gathering in a small country town in NM, hosted by the local Tea Party, the East Mountain Tea Party. The gathering was held to inform the public about the dangers in the current trend in education towards socialism, and also to introduce to the community various candidates for statewide and national offices, so we could determine who is able and willing to take on the fight to overturn what has been implemented in Washington. Many strong comments were made during the spirited question and answer session.
It was not a large gathering, yet something interesting came to my attention. Present at the meeting were Therese and Emily Cooper, who are direct descendants of American Founding Father, Patrick Henry.
I found that fact worthy of interest, and while discussing it, someone mentioned that a candidate who was present, Matthew Rush, running for Commissioner of Public Lands, is a descendant of Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence. While marveling at this with patriotic satisfaction, another candidate running for the same office, James Jackson, mentioned that he is descended from the family of John Alden, one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact.
A gathering out in the country, yet three or more present were descended from people involved in the foundations of our nation. I was impressed. After further reflection, I came to a startling yet obvious conclusion. My grandfather, John Geisler, was born in 1906. He once told me that while he was seven years old, he talked to his great-uncle, who had fought in the Civil War, who told him about speaking with his great-grandfather, who had fought in the Revolutionary War.
My grandfather told me, “I talked to someone who talked to someone who fought in the Revolutionary War!” He went on, “I could have asked them anything about the War, about their recollections, about the times…but I was only seven years old. I didn’t know enough to be interested.”
Then, it struck me. We are the descendants of our founding fathers. The nation is teeming with us. The Tea Parties must be filled with descendants of the founding fathers, of those who stood for freedom from the beginning of this nation. Our forefathers stood with courage and resolve against the most powerful nation on earth, and we are their children. We ARE the founding fathers.
No wonder we have had an almost visceral reaction to the actions of the current Congress and White House. No wonder we are hoarse from shouting at the TV while digesting the nightly news. No wonder we are addicted to Lucianne.com and The Drudge Report, and have made the ratings soar at cable news leader, FoxNews, and plummet on their competitors’ channels.
We want C-SPAN in the House and Senate, we want our representatives to stand for our rights and the Constitution, and we are outraged at the liars in government who
claim to be transparent, while making backroom deals and interstate bribes.
We are an easygoing people, but we are descendants of patriots, and liberty is in our blood. Don’t tread on us runs as deep in us as it did in them. We are their children, whether of founding fathers and mothers, or immigrants who came to the new land with courage in hand and resolve to make a life for themselves and their descendants. We are America, children of the founding fathers, children of the great melting pot, and we are damn proud of it.

Shortlink:
Wasn’t at the Tea Party down here due to other conflicts, but your premise of us being children of the founding fathers is truer than most people know.
I do a bit of genealogy and have had the good luck of much of my family history being recorded and preserved. I descend (as we all likely do) from a number of the great founding patriots, and I am proud of it. We need to keep our concerns real and take those concerns into the voting booth in November 2010 and make a profound change.
Enjoyed reading your article. As a S.A.R. I thank you for your patriotism and effort. Best to you.
This is a truth I dare say the Obama Administration will not be happy to acknowledge. Great article
I sure hope the Tea Party doesn’t find out I’m a Mexican.
I am sure they won’t mind the Tea Parties in Texas have a good number of them.
The article really is about those who love freedom, whether immigrants or children of the founding fathers. The Tea Parties are filled with us. However, we are brethren to citizens in the Ukraine, Iraqis with purple fingers, and Iranians who have flocked to the streets by the millions. At the present time, we are being pushed around by a socialist-loving, power hungry White House, Congress, the media, and the U.N. But freedom runs deep in our spirits, and we will prevail, as did the founding fathers, so help us God.
Is the Tea Party for or against Social Security?
Medicare?
The $300 billion plus annual defense budget?
Take those three things off the table, and you can fit the government into a couple of Sam’s Club parking lots…
Pingback: We Are The Founding Mothers: HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY | Stump Report
interesting. because both my husband and I, and all our family, are also descended from either Founding Fathers (and Mothers) and/or Mayflower Compact pilgrims. and we’re LIBERALS!!! which means that:
1. no one group in our country can claim “purity of descent” as authority for our political opinions; and
2. this being a democratic republic, the very idea of a “descended nobility of birth” is repugnant to our very being.
cheers!
You are very correct being a descendant of a founder is just as common to a Liberal as it is to a Conservative.
I am doing a study on how progressiveness effected the values of the founders and their great grandchildren. I am trying to piece together a timeline as to when those who are Liberal today, yet had founding relatives who had Biblical values lost those values. It is really interesting – I am finding that most Liberals today are actually only two generation away from parents that would be considered radically Conservative today. This whole study is helping me identify how progressiveness moves and deteriorates values and principles in a family. Appreciate any help….
