“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”-Emma Lazarus, engraved on the Statue of Liberty
Beautiful isn’t it? Many immigrants, who have arrived in America, were welcomed by this and by Lady Liberty herself-a symbol of FREEDOM! Many waited for hours at Ellis Island to see if they received the approval to stay and become a U.S. citizen and most did. Most immigrants came and made a life for themselves and their families, working on the “American Dream”-never once expecting a hand out from the Federal Government (Really the American Taxpayer).
So what the heck has been going on the last 35 years? Too many people in government and in our schools have preached that all people are entitled to what each hard working American has, no matter what. That includes illegal aliens paying actually no taxes on the money illegal aliens make here in America-they just send it back to Mexico, then receive free healthcare, free education, welfare-if an illegal alien “needs” it the American people have foot the bill. Many politicians even go as far as that every illegal alien has the same rights as American citizens; excuse me-OH IT GETS BETTER.
Many politicians are now packaging illegal aliens as a civil rights issue-did I just hear Martin Luther King Jr. roll over in his grave? The Mexican drug cartels are killing (kidnapping too) thousands of people a year including Americans-heck Phoenix, AZ is rated number TWO for the most kidnappings, right behind Mexico City-yikes! This does not include the many illegal aliens that have died due to human smuggling across the border.
U. S. Border Patrol Officers are being prosecuted and convicted (now released after serving time in prison) of shooting an illegal alien drug dealer in the butt after being caught dealing drugs and breaking American law. On top of all this, Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon thinks it is so horrible that Arizona State decided to pass a state law to help enforce Federal laws on immigration-it is being racist and it will lead to profiling. I have read it and you can find it at http://www.arizonaguide.com/arizona-travel-info/identification-requirements . What do you think? Not so racist is it? Not so bad is it?
Why has Arizona taken this step? Because like many states in America, illegal aliens are sucking their state dry! Look back over the last 35 years and you see the more illegal aliens America has allowed in, the more debt schools, hospitals, states, and the federal government has had to deal with-it is now in the billions of dollars for many states and in the millions of dollars for schools and hospitals.
When you have a population that is numbered in the millions that do not pay taxes, but continually receive “free” healthcare, education, and welfare-you end up with a big debt. This does not include the millions of dollars spent for interpreters at hospitals, clinics, government agencies, and schools. Plus, the millions of dollars spent on the many different language pamphlets distributed by government agencies, hospitals, schools, and the many bilingual (minimum) employees hired to do the 2010 Census.
All these things that are demanded by illegal aliens and politicians are costing America its financial stability, freedom, higher taxes, and so much more. America did not have these kinds of problems before the 1970’s, because the illegal alien problem is nothing like it has been in the last 35 years.
I have watched in my own community, illegal aliens given more help in the public school classroom (more federal government for each hispanic); then American kids whose parents pay taxes-American kids get thrown to the curb. How can American kids compete in a Global Market when public schools ignore them?
You may think I am a racist, but what I really am is an American that has had enough of illegal aliens sucking America dry! I have had it with illegal aliens and politicians
trying to make out Americans as racist because they have had enough of illegal aliens hiding behind the U.S. Constitution for their “rights”. Americans have had enough of our police and U.S. Border Patrol getting screwed by politicians wanting votes, instead of justice for the victims of kidnapping, killing, and drug sales.
Americans have had enough of hearing the “sob stories” of those illegal aliens that just cannot go back to Mexico, because their own country does not want them either because there are not any jobs-too bad! Americans are sick of seeing so many of our government documents, school information, and hospital information in different languages-excuse me: LEARN ENGLISH!
Many of Americans have ancestors that came to this country that could not speak a lick of English, but they learned or dealt with it the best way they could. But they did not go whining and crying to the politicians of the day-they would have gotten laughed at.
It is time for American citizens to take a stand and not stand for illegal aliens to come to this country to suck it dry! It is time the states and the Federal Government enforce the standing U.S. Immigration laws that are already on the books, that includes supporting our police and the U.S. Border Patrol (that means an illegal runs-shoot them!). It is time to vote out all politicians that support illegal aliens sucking America dry! It is time!

Shortlink:
I love it that you say “learn English” when your writing is full of misspelled words and poorly written sentences. Maybe if you learned some English yourself you wouldn’t have so much time to sit around hating Hispanics.
And, for your information, illegal immigrants don’t receive welfare. They are ineligible. Furthermore, there have been numerous studies done that refute the notion that illegals don’t pay taxes (they in fact pay quite a lot of taxes) and that they are imposing a large burden on government services. The things you say are simply untrue. But since your ability to comprehend basic facts is probably as poor as your ability to write a proper English sentence, I don’t imagine this will make a difference to you.
Is that all you got? Show me your “numerous studies”…Since you sink so low as to say I do not know how to write in English, I would appreciate you backing up your accusation. If you can!
Becki, well said. For Paul to say that “illegal immigrants don’t receive welfare” is kind of a trick statement for most liberals as they don’t believe in illegal immigrants; therefore, they can not be receiving welfare. I know many illegal aliens in California personally, who graduated public university while still remaining illegal, all on public funds. Always check for the truth you will usually find a Democrat standing in its path with a sign pointing in the other direction.
Paul
Your dumber then dirt.
“Many waited for hours at Ellis Island…”
This sure beats the two decades or more many people have to wait to become legalized in the present system. People who are impoverished (the “huddled masses, yearning to breathe free”) and their families cannot survive this long and often have no other choice but to come to this country illegally, or else they and their families will starve and die.
Sensible, comprehensive immigration reform can solve this problem. The perpetual deployment of military personnel to the border cannot.
Also, it is worth noting that English is not now, nor has it ever been, the US’s official language. People have the right in this country to practice the tenants of whichever culture they choose– it’s part of the individual freedom that makes this country so great.
@Mark: At least Paul contributed a complete thought to the discourse; by saying to someone “your dumber then dirt [sic throughout]” when you’ve never met them and have no real gauge to the level of their intelligence besides one internet post, you are exhibiting a childish behavior that harms, rather than helps, the public discourse. If you are smarter than Paul, and have better thought-out ideas than Paul, maybe you should exhibit them.
Blake thank you for your comments. The reason the military is being deployed by the WH right now is to shuffle papers, not to help those American citizens fight the drug war & more that is boiling over onto American soil…America really needs to defend our southern border from drug czars, terrorists, and kidnappers and that means we deploy our military to defend our citizens, not to shuffle papers.
I do not agree that America should have immigration reform, it is difficult to become a citizen for a reason: keep the undesirables out!
As for speaking English in America…some states have passed laws stating that all people of the state must speak English. Many came to this country to make a new life for themselves and if they did not speak English, they either learned or dealt with it other ways-but they did not expect the government or the communities they live in to have interpreters or have tests in their language.
Thank you.
Thank you for your thoughtful response, Becki. I applaud anyone who can engage in a reasonable dialog without resorting to personal attacks or name-calling (as is all-too-common in the public sphere of the internet).
I guess I’m wondering about the differences between the earlier immigration practices in this country (the ones that required people to wait only a few hours, and created an immigration environment many people now romanticize and consider ideal) and the ones now (which can require a decades-long wait and, from what I can reason, does not do enough to keep “undesirables” out of our country, as illegal immigration a bigger issue than ever and by many people’s opinion requires military action). Did our previous system–the more efficient one–do more to keep “undesirables” out? If so, how? Could there ever be a return to a more efficient system that is also more effective? Obviously these are difficult questions to weigh and ponder; I’m simply offering them up for the purpose of public discourse.
This concept of keeping “undesirables” out worries me as well. Of course there are some qualities we can all agree are “undesirable” (for example, violent, incorrigible criminals, or those who wish to commit acts of terrorism), but, to me, the trouble arises in who gets to choose which qualities are “undesirable.” Historically, many attempts at preventing an “undesirable” element in immigration to this country has led to policy which could be considered racist or prejudiced (in the 1920s, for example, quotas were put on immigration which favored Anglo-Saxons greatly, allowing tens of thousands of immigrants from England or Germany but no more than 100 from any African country; in 1942, it was made illegal for all Japanese people to become legal citizens regardless of past criminal activities or sympathies, etc.). My great fear is that our current system, which can include waiting times that make it impossible for people of a certain economic conditions to legally immigrate, unfairly targets the poor as an “undesirable” element regardless of their values or past criminal history, and I think that’s out of step with the ideals of freedom displayed proudly with the Statue of Liberty at Ellis Island.
Also, I am greatly shocked and dismayed to learn that some states have made it mandatory for US citizens to speak English; to me, this seems like an affront to our Constitutional freedoms (as the first amendment right to free speech makes no exceptions based on language) and those whom we both agree have the right not to speak English (as long as they don’t require others to conform to their standards) can be unfairly targeted with these laws to prevent them from being able to say what they wish, how they wish. Could you please provide the names of specific states which have made this the law? I am having trouble finding this information on the internet and wish to protest/boycott. Thank you.
The United States is in a different place economically & safety wise than it was at the turn of the 20th Century and so more immigrates were allowed in. Sadly enough there were attempts made by Congress to keep the undesirables out by such acts as the Immigration Act of 1924 (Johnson-Reed Act) and others like it. During WWII Congress thought they were protecting the country from the Japanese & Chinese threat.
But now we are in a fight to protect our country from terrorists and trying to keep our economy afloat and the influx of illegal aliens are making it harder. That is why something has to be done and that includes starting to enforce the laws already on the books federally and by the states.
About the states passing English only speaking here is the following site to show the states that have already passed this kind of legislation:
http://englishfirst.org/englishstates/
Making English the official language is trying to protect the American citizens from harm, not a Free Speech issue. When you are driving a car and some illegal alien is driving in this country and does not know how to read or speak English you and your family are at risk. Ask the many who have lost loved ones due to this problem-sadly it is prevelant. Also, if you work in a manufacturing plant (I use to) and the company hires a non-English speaking employee; how do you communicate with that person? What do you do when somebody is caught in the machine and they are by the shut off (not all machines have automatic shut offs)? It does not work and the safety of all are put at risk.
Concerning what is printed on the Statue of Liberty-that is from a time when the United States was not such peril as it is now.
Thank you.
Thanks for that list. While I agree that language barriers can sometimes put people at risk, I think that’s a slippery slope– because just as easily as one could argue that our governments need mandatory English laws to protect us, one could also argue the that those same governments could require the printing of other languages on signs and to provide translators for businesses, etc. for that same purpose. And, again, while it could be seen as a safety issue, I disagree that it is specifically not a free speech issue, because, while some citizens are being protected, others (who do not speak English) are being oppressed.
I am deeply saddened by your view that the ideals of liberty and freedom for all demonstrated by the Statue of Liberty are no longer valid. If this is true, then we (as citizens of a free nation) are in true peril indeed.
I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT THE IMPOVERISHED PEOPLE AND HOW THEY CAN’T BREATH! GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK! DO YOU NOT READ, DO YOU NOT WATCH THE NEWS AND HOW HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THESE PEOPLE IN OUR STREETS DESICRATING MY F-ING AMERICAN FLAG, THREATENING TO KILL THE AMERICAN COPS, THREATENING TO KILL LEGAL AMERICAN CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY CAN’T GET THEIR WAY, THEY DON’T GIVE A FLYING CRAP ABOUT YOU OR YOUR FAMILY ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY AND COUNTRY TRUST ME. I HAVE WITNESSED IT MYSELF , YOU WANT TO SEE IT GOT L.A. CALIF. WHEN THOS ILLEGALS PROTEST IT’S NOT PRETTY!! AND IT’S ALL BACKED BY CROOKED POLITICIANS.. IF YOU WANT PROOF GO TO FACEBOOK AND LOOK ME UP I HAVE TONS AND TONS OF IT!!!!! SHEILA CARTER
BECKI tells the truth and for those of you who don’t agree or don’t like IT too bad WE THE PEOPLE are not going away. i’m tired of paying taxes for things that i can’t even get! eventually there will be immigration reform, but it won’t be amnesty. we’re gonna kick em out and start over the right way!!!!
“I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT THE IMPOVERISHED PEOPLE…”
I’m sorry that hearing about the misfortunes of others has inconvenienced you. I agree that it can be a bit fatiguing, hearing about the multitudes of injustice that occur every day… but to turn our backs and ignore people who are dying, whose children are dying, because we are “SICK OF HEARING ABOUT” them is wrong, in my opinion (particularly if you are a Christian).
“HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THESE PEOPLE IN OUR STREETS DESICRATING MY F-ING AMERICAN FLAG, THREATENING TO KILL THE AMERICAN COPS, THREATENING TO KILL LEGAL AMERICAN CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY CAN’T GET THEIR WAY, THEY DON’T GIVE A FLYING CRAP ABOUT YOU OR YOUR FAMILY ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY AND COUNTRY TRUST ME.”
You talk a lot in your post about “THESE PEOPLE,” and what “THEY DON’T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT,” and what “THEY WANT,” but I must ask: who are the ‘they’ to whom you are referring? Are you talking about people who resort to violence and threats in an attempt to get what they want? If you are, then I understand your sentiment; but then, of course, we must be careful not to make generalizations about certain groups of people based on the actions of a few unreasonable people (you said in your post that hundreds of thousands of people have threatened to kill police officers and children… could you please cite a source for that?). I fear you are making a generalization about all undocumented persons in this country when, in fact, many are nonviolent, and have broken no laws except the misdemeanor charge of being undocumented in this country. You are free to disapprove of their being here illegally, but I think we are all reasonable enough to realize that making generalizations about people only serves to distort reality, and cheapen one’s argument.
Blake I think Sheila is just frustrated and out of patience with the illegal alien problems that are happening all over America. It does not help when our President demeans our police and calls their actions “stupid” and is appointing a man known for taking it easy on illegals to be the head of ICE (not including the fact he is held responisble for the shooting of 3 policemen in Houston, TX and Phoenix, AZ)-this is the same man that believes in “santuary cities” for illegals-how is that working for Phoenix (2nd only to Mexico City in kidnapping in the world)? This kind of sentiment is very widespread and not getting any better and the Obama administration is fanning the flames!!
Thank you.
