Since the advent of the blogger military personal from all branches have embraced the opportunity to document and share their experiences and ideas with their readers. This freedom, likely second to none with the world’s militaries may be under scrutiny from both the White House and Obama’s supporters within the military.
As, it seems, many military bloggers are critical of the Obama Administration and its policies and have drawn a sharp and somewhat under the mat response. The response being: stop. The United States Army’s policy on this “AR 530-1, Operations Security (OPSEC)” seems to suggest these restrictions are for security concerns and not regarding political opinion. However, surly the argument can be made that any disagreement with Presidential policy is a security matter, within military ranks. Then again do American’s sign away their rights as voting citizens when they enlist?
The OPSEC document requires all blogging to go through a supervisor first prior to publishing. This opens up a whole can of worms, as to what they personally like and don’t like. The OPSEC policy I am sure, never intended superiors to take on the role as editors. This is another troubling issue to watch.
